About Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute was founded in 1824 as a private technical school. The school is dedicated to developing tomorrow’s technology leaders. Courses are offered in the Faculty of Architecture, Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, as well as Management and Natural Sciences.

Courses are taken in modern classrooms with several world class facilities to engage students in research. The hands-on research and group projects of the undergraduate degree are hallmarks of an exciting and rigorous curriculum.

Campus life outside the classroom includes 23 NCAA sports and more than 130 club and state events. The school is a 260-acre campus located in Troy, 15 miles from Albany.

Student Life at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

RPI students integrate into a society that accommodates students’ religious diversity and cultural differences. The school has more than 170 organizations that deal with academics, activities, religion, socio-culture, sports, political views and many other issues.

At Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, students are free to explore and express themselves to the best of their ability. RPI has a well-organized sports community for major competitions.

The RPI acceptance rate is 57%. The school ranks 47th in New York among schools that accept a less number of students. RPI is a more competitive school and it’s good at recruiting the right applicants.

RPI requires high SAT and ACT for admission and admits students in the top 10% of SAT/ACT test-takers.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute generally accepts and attracts students who are excellent – high school students who apply to this school students at the A- level, who have a GPA of approximately 3.93. Rensselaer University Admission Requirements

  • High school transcripts from previous schools showing the first and last semester grades in detail.
  • Letter of recommendation from the school counsellor or teacher. RPI primarily want a recommendation letter to be submitted by science or math teachers.
  • Official test results from your previous school must be submitted.
  • As expected, an essay or personal statement where you can introduce yourself and what you expect. Except for the following programs below.
    • Accelerated Associates in Medicine (BS/MD) Program (BIAM)

    • Games and Simulations, Arts and Sciences (GSAS)
    • Music (musc)
  • You must pay a non-refundable application fee of $70 before your application is processed.

In addition, international students applying outside of the United States face other requirements that can be obtained from the application portal. application portal.

RPI Graduate Admission Requirements

  • The $75 registration fee is non-refundable.
  • Personal statement of career/academic interests, goals, vision, etc. However, this does not apply to PhD degrees in programs like science and technology, critical and game design and electronic art. The aforementioned fields will require a separate proposal.
  • Two letters of recommendation are attached to your resume.

What are the SAT Requirements

As the RPI Acceptance rate is very select, the school generally prefers applicants to be among the 12%  of students who took the SAT test. The school continuously lowers the cumulative SAT score to 1300 out of 1600, so that getting admission into the school can be possible.

RPI transfer acceptance rate and requirements

The school enrols 284 transfer students, meaning that as a transfer student you are going to meet your kind.

The RPI Rensselaer transfer acceptance rate is 57% on average.

Each year, more than 200 transfer students join the academic community at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

The school accepts transfer students who are studying in accredited two- and four-year universities in the United States and around the world. Admission to Rensselaer is are you need to perform well academically to get in.

To be eligible, transfer applicants must have at least 12 transferable credits and be in good academic standing. Transfer students are eligible to apply to study any program at RPI except the school’s accelerated programs.

Students with a two-year college or community college degree (AS), or students currently attending a four-year college or Rensselaer-affiliated university, may transfer to Rensselaer as a full junior if accepted.

Transfer Compulsory courses

Before enrolling at Rensselaer, you must take at least one pre-calculus math course. Although there are no specific course requirements apart from the fact that you must have completed a pre-calculus, it is highly recommended to take courses related to the intended field of study.

Grade Point Average (GPA)

Generally, RPI is looking for transfer students who have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

A 3.0 GPA should be considered a guideline, not a strict cutoff, as students with a GPA below 3.0 may gain admission.

Portfolio (if applicable)

A creative portfolio must be submitted for transfer to programs such as the ones listed below:

  • Architecture (ARCH)
  • Electronic Arts (EART)
  • Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences (GSAS), and
  • Music (MUSC) programs.

RPI acceptance rate and requirements for International Students

There is no separate RPI acceptance rate for International Students as international admission takes the same process as that of domestic students. However, international students will need to submit additional documents like proof of language proficiency and more.

RPI considers students who is not from the US or permanent resident international applicant. Rensselaer admits international students to all of the programs in the school except the Physician-Scientist (BS/MD) program.

International undergraduate students are not eligible for financial aid.
