Motivation Letter for Job Application

The motivational letter should not be confused with a cover letter, which is basically used to emphasize how the specific information on your resume matches a job opening or any other type of an open position. Think of a cover letter as an introduction to your resume for a hiring manager and your motivational letter as a powerful selling point for a college or job application.

What is a Motivation Letter for Job Application letter and why is it important?

Do you or are you about to graduate from university? Congratulations, you have taken an important step. Make sure you celebrate it properly. Although you have accomplished an important feat, you also face an immediate new challenge: how to find your first job. The competition for entry-level jobs is tough and you have to write a very solid application to receive an invitation to an interview.

A motivation letter is a one-page letter that describes why you are the perfect candidate for a particular position. It is usually attached to your resume.

One of the most overlooked aspects of an application is the motivation letter or cover letter as people call it sometimes, but remember; a cover letter is quite different from a motivation for job application and I have explained what a cover letter is in the first paragraph. Since this is the first thing a recruiter sees, you need to make sure you make a good first impression.

Why does the motivational letter for job application letter matter?

  • You are more of an actor than an interlocutor: you have listed everything needed to know about you on your CV or resume. That must be enough, right? Not correct!
  • All organizations are looking for people who really want to be there and who are enthusiastic about what they are doing. The intention and anticipation should be your basic driving motivation!
  • Writing a good motivational letter for job application can change the rules of the game. It can improve your resume, but also make up for the lack of skills required.

Tips for writing an almost perfect motivation letter

Writing a good motivational letter for job application can be very difficult. Here is your guide to writing motivation letters to simplify the process and help you create an exceptional letter that sets you apart from other applicants.

Your job is to create a dynamic letter that impresses a recruiter or employer and convinces him or her to pay more attention to your application.

Good idea

Before you begin with the writing of your motivation letter for an organization, take some time and do research. Your job is to find out all the details about the company, and the job position you are applying for. Search the company’s website and note the job requirements for the position you have chosen.

You will find the perfect requirement for the candidate. Use this information to create a personalized letter tailored to a specific job position. Sending the same letter in bulk will never work for you. So focus on creating a generic letter. Think about your true motivation and interest and how this job opportunity will help you express your inert qualities, and how it will benefit the company.

Pay attention to the format of the motivation letter

Make sure your letter is accurate and to the point. It shouldn’t be more than one page and it is even strongly recommended that you stay a little below one page. Include only the most relevant information. Remember to use suitable fonts (such as Arial or Times New Roman) and a legible font size.

Structure your motivation letter

Below is a good structure of a winning motivation letter.

Greeting

Begin your letter with a professional greeting. In this part, you must provide all the necessary information: your full name, your contact details, the full name of the company you are applying to, and the address where the company is located, the date the application was sent. Then start your motivational letter with “Dear Sir or Madam” (or the receiver’s name, if known).

Introduction

Your first paragraph is expected to include a strong introductory sentence that attracts the recruiter’s attention at a glance. Name two or three main resources, traits, or assets you have that will help you contribute to the development of the business, or company.

Body

This is the main and very important part of the motivation letter. In this section, your main task is to explain how your knowledge, experience, and skills make you an excellent candidate for this job position or program. State your reasons and your primary motivation to be part of this company.

Remember to include specific examples on your motivation letter for any organization. Mention all of your educational achievements, experiences, and certain distinctive features.

Conclude

In this paragraph, you must express your great interest in meeting the recruiter and discussing this particular opportunity in detail.

Signature

Kind regards (greetings or similar) is required. Enter your contact details again so that an employer can easily contact you.

Motivation Letter for Job Application Example

Below is an example of a format a good motivational letter should follow. This example is tailored for the position of Business Analyst, but you can use the format and prepare your own, and change some information to make align with the type of job, you are applying for.

Motivational letter for a job application as a Business Analyst

Motivation Letter for Job

Dear Sir / Madam,

In May 2019 I will receive a degree from [name of university] with a Bachelor of Science in economics and a minor in finance. I read your article for the position of a business analyst with great interest and I am convinced that I would be a great addition to your team.

My strong work ethic is shown by the fact that I was president of [student activity] at the same time as my university studies and summer internships in [name of the internship] at [name of company] and [name of the internship] at [company name]. This experience allowed me to get a realistic idea of the requirements and challenges of a business analyst position.

As a Summer Associate at [Stage Company Name], I was responsible for overseeing key economic, industrial, and corporate developments through the analysis of information from financial services and publications, investment banking companies, government agencies, specialist publications, business sources, and face-to-face interviews.

As an [internship name] at [internship company name], I worked on various financial reports, including cash flow, profit and loss, and balance sheet analysis. My work has been used for presentations across the company.

In addition to my practical experience, I’ve always stayed academically focused and I expect to graduate with an average of 3.9 / 4.0.
With the combination of this professional and academic experience, I look forward to discussing the convenience of joining your organization. You can find my CV in the attachment.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Greetings,

Bassey Chimezirim James.

  • Explain your achievements in your motivational letter for job application using short but specific examples and explain why they are relevant to this role you are apply for in the organization. You can refer the employer to the resume or CV for more details.
  • Focus on the areas that set you apart from the competition, not the basic job criteria.
  • In your letter show how you studied the role and work context to the organization by explaining your professional motivation.
  • Explain your reasons when looking for a career change or a side change
  • Be precise. Ask a friend to check it with you and change the deep sentences and unnecessary words.
