The University of Virginia recently revealed its admission statistics and the acceptance rate for the new students entering the university was lower than the previous admission year.
The University of Virginia is one of the best universities in the Virginia State College System – the schools of law and business at the university are now private schools. One of the university’s biggest reputational claims is its strong ties to key figures in U.S. history.

Recent admission statistics from the University of Virginia show that over 50,000 applications were received in the fall of 2022. The number of applications received for regular admission at UVA was 16,196 and 2,182 students were accepted.
Those who were successful include 750 Virginians and 1,432 out-of-state students.
The University of Virginia offered admission to a total number of 9,503 from an applicant pool of 50,926. This means the acceptance rate at the University of Virginia is 18.6%, which is extremely selective.
Out of the 9,503 applicants that were accepted into the University of Virginia, 4,043 students enrolled at the university. According to a statement on the university’s website, 86% of the enrolled students had reported ranking in the to[p tenth of their class.

Admission to the University of Virginia is a very selective one, with an acceptance rate of 18.6% and an early acceptance rate of 16.6%. Half of the UVA-approved applicants have SAT scores between 1320-1510 or ACT scores between 30-34.

UVA GPA Requirements
According to Prepscholar. com, the average GPA required at the University of Virginia is 4.32.
UVA expects its applicants to have more A’s in all classes to compete against other candidates. In addition, you will need to take challenging courses – AP or IB courses – to show that you are ready to face what a college education has for you.
If you are currently a junior or senior, you may have difficulty transforming your GPA in time to get into college. If your GPA is 4.32 or below the UVA average, you should plan to do better in your SAT or ACT to make up for the deficiency in your GPA. This will help you get along effectively with other applicants who have a higher GPA than you.

How to apply to the University of Virginia
In addition to Common App UVA unique questions, all UVA applicants must submit the following documents:
- $70 application fee or waiver of application fee.
- ACT or SAT results.
- High school questionnaires and transcripts.
- Recommendation by your secondary school guidance counsellor.
- Letter of recommendation from your school teacher in high school.
- mid-year and final grade reports, if available.
- Optional: Art and Architecture Add-ons.
Students applying for “intra-state benefits” (including exemption from tuition fees) may be required to submit additional documents. If the school needs additional documents from you, they will contact you directly.
What is the University of Virginia looking for in its applicants?
The ease of access to UVA depends on whether you are a student in the state or outside the state. UVA is among the top 40-50 colleges in competitiveness for state students, but it is about as competitive as the top 20 schools for out-of-school students (more than USC and UCLA, slightly less than UC Berkeley).
Applicants applying for an Early Decision (ED) / Early Action (EA) in the UVA will be accepted at a higher rate than applicants applying for a general decision. However, the UVA ED/EA app does not offer the same benefits as other colleges (and has a minimum weight for in-state students).
Overall, UVA puts more students on the waiting list than other schools. Students on the waiting list must always complete the entire process.

Conclusion and Hearing Back from UVA
If you are among the applicants who applied via the EA timeline, you will be notified of the admission decision at the end of January. At this point, you may be accepted, rejected, or delayed.
Because the EA UVA program is optional, you have no contractual obligation to participate in UVA if you are accepted into this round. If you are interested in attending UVA, you must compare offers, make a decision and notify UVA by May 1st.
If UVA rejects you in the EA round, your application will not be re-processed during the same application round, but you can re-apply for a transfer after completing at least one year of study at another university. However, if your application is deferred in this round, during the RD Candidate Pool your application will be reconsidered.
RD applicants as well as EA deferred applicants will receive an admission decision by the end of March. If you are accepted, you must decide by May 1st. If you are still rejected at this point of consideration, you will, unfortunately, have to look for another school.
However, when the RD list is published, you may also be placed on a waiting list, which means that your application can be re-evaluated if space eventually becomes available.
All students admitted to UVA, through either the EA or RD process, must notify UVA by May 1 if they wish to attend classes in the fall. You will also need to pay a matriculation class securing fee of $400. In all this always bear the University Of Virginia Acceptance Rate in and do your best.
