2021 Michigan University Admission Requirements for Freshman.

The criteria and Michigan University Admission Requirements for freshman or undergraduate studies are as follows:

  • The general admissible cumulative high school grade point starts from an average of 3.5. Applicants below 3.5 but not lesser than 2.5 cumulative grade points will be considered based on the positive trend of their grades and the number of preparatory courses the applicant has taken.
  • Incoming classes of 2021 do not necessarily need to have SAT or ACT scores submitted as this is optional.
  • Essays and letters of recommendation are not required for the 2021 session.
  • International students or non-native speakers as one of the Michigan University Admission Requirements must prove an adequate level of English language proficiency even if they are in the united states of America at the time of the application. However, due to the pandemic and widespread of English test centres closures Duolingo English Test will be accepted temporarily with a minimum score of 105. 

Required Documents

  • Transcripts – Official high school transcript and college coursework while in high school (if applicable), to be sent directly to UM by the school.
  • Test scores (optional) – SAT and ACT, to be sent directly to UM by the testing agency.
Michigan University Admission Requirements

2021 Michigan University Admission Requirements for Transfer Students.

With 39% of the total students in the University of Michigan being transfer students and half the number of incoming students being transfer students, you have no fear if you want to transfer from your present college to the university.

Therefore, if you are looking for a change of pace, a school closer to home, academic excellence at a more affordable rate or a flexible teaching schedule then the University of Michigan is a great fit for you.

Transfer Scholarship

The University of Michigan offers scholarships to recognize the scholastic achievement of transfer students. Some of them are listed below.

Community college transfer scholarships

  • Basic eligibility: Student with at least 30 hours transferable credit hours or an associate degree from a community college may be eligible depending upon their transfer GPA calculated by the office of undergraduate admissions.
  • Award amount: based on academic achievements.
  • Deadline: end of the admission process

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK)scholarship

  • Basic eligibility: Student who are members of PTK, awarded together with other transfer scholarship.
  • Award amount: up to $1,000 annually and renewable for up to three school years.
  • Deadline: show proof of membership before the fall semester.

College of engineering and computer science (CECS) scholarship programs

  • Basic eligibility: based on academic achievements and the student major.
  • Award amount: vary.
  • Deadline: awarded by the department based on admission.

Tuition differential scholarship program

  • Basic eligibility: A U.S citizen or permanent resident and a recalculated GPA starting from 3.5.
  • Award amount: covers the difference between in-state and out of state tuition.
  • Deadline: end of the admission process.

Community service personnel scholarships

  • Basic eligibility: students who are public safety employees at partnering organizations.
  • Award amount: 20% tuition and fees.

Center for the education of women scholarships

  • Basic eligibility: Student with at least a 48-month interruption in their education and now enrolled in a degree program.
  • Award amount: range from $1,000 – $11,000.
  • Deadline: May 7.

International student scholarships

  • Basic eligibility: Student with at least 3.5 of 4.0 GPA, holds a valid visa, and a score of at least 6.5 in IELTS, or MELAB 76.
  • Award amount: $10,000 for up to four years.
  • Deadline: end of the admission process.

Michigan University Admission Requirements for Postgraduate

Students seeking admission into graduate studies are to meet the following minimum university of Michigan admission requirements:

  • Completion of Bachelor’s degree from an approved institution within or outside the united states.
  • Applicants whose native language is not English must prove an adequate level of English language proficiency. Either IETLS or TOEFL.
  • Additional requirements such as work experience, prerequisite courses, etc might be required.

Michigan University Admission Entry Requirements for International Students

UM, Admission requirements for an international student are the same as the listed ones for undergraduate, transfer and graduate programs with some additional requirements listed below:

  • All correspondence must be in English and should contain the full legal name of the applicant as shown in the passport or other government-issued identification.
  • GPA of at least 3.5/4.0 and a score of at least 6.5 in IELTS, or MELAB 76
  • Holds a valid visa.
  • Proof of financial support
  • Health insurance
  • SEVIS form DS 2019
  • Transfer clearance form

How to Apply

Having taken note of the Michigan University Admission Requirements for domestic and international students, you are required to submit the following:

  • ONLINE APPLICATION– Completed and submitted online through the online application portal using a valid email address.
  • STATEMENT OF PURPOSE– 500 words PDF or Word Doc which describes your post-graduation career plans, and how your education and experience will support and help you attain your goals.
  • RESUME OR CV– two-page limit for Msc. applicant and a four-page limit for PhD applicant. Include all relevant information. This ‘must’ be uploaded with the online application as a PDF or Word document.
  • LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION– please refer to your programme for the number of required letters.
  • SUBMIT OFFICIAL COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY TRANSCRIPTS. 
  • ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY – scores must not be more than two years old. An applicant who studied in countries where the official language is English and where the language of instruction is English is exempted from submitting this.
  • TEST SCORES (GRE/GMAT)– find out if your program requires a standardized test at the admission requirements page on the school website.
  • INTERNATIONAL TRANSCRIPT EVALUATION– the use of third-party evaluation services such as world education services (WES) or Educational credential evaluators (ECE) are not accepted as this review is completed by an evaluator internally, and you do not need to take any action.
